Parish Pastoral Council
May 2004 Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, May 25, 2004
The meeting began with a Scripture reading and the Centennial Prayer.
Reconfiguration Update-
On the topic of reconfiguration, there was a great response as to the transition for the Star of the Sea Parish to Sacred Heart.
Maureen Conway suggested that we put up a sign that says, “Sacred Heart community humbly offers ours prayers to the members of closing parishes.”
There have been no formal guidelines set up yet for the transitional team. We discussed what we thought we would be appropriate for the transition. Mentioned were the various ministries that we have and how we can incorporate a seamless change.
A transition team will be formed and several parishioners will be asked to participate. Deb and Rosemary will represent the Parish Council. Names that were put forward were Simi Jo Leary(15-25, Bartholomew Jae (26-40), Socorro Talmera (41-55) Bill Kelly and Dottie Ostiguy (56-69) and Jean Tierney and Frank Sweet ( 70 +).
Father O’Brien will speak at all the masses concerning the closing. An informational meeting will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday, June 23 at 7:00 PM in the main church. By then, there will be more information on the closing schedule.
Possibly there could be a bus from Star of the Sea to go to Sacred Heart on Saturdays at 3:30.
Adult Education-
The book discussion has had success and another meeting has been scheduled for June 27 in the lower church. An item will be placed in the bulletin.
Other suggestions included a trip to the Cape Cod Canal for a walking hike. Maureen Conway will look further into it.
Cradles to Crayons-
Myrtle Street, Quincy, www.cradlestocrayons.org
Kevin Coughlin had spoken about this organization. Maureen Conway contacted them and went for a tour of the facility. She was impressed with the work that was being done there. It is an excellent way to encourage team building for the parish. It was suggested that a group of volunteers go there on Wednesday, June 16, from 1-4. There would be a tour and an orientation of the facility. Suggested tasks would include office work, sorting books, clothes, and toys, etc., and repairing gently used toys. There will be a bus from Sacred Heart to the facility. There is a day care for children and we could provide our own sitters. Perhaps after the first time that we volunteer, we could have a “debriefing” at the church.
