Parish Pastoral Council

May 2005 Meeting Minutes

Minutes from the meeting held on May 24, 2005.

The meeting began with a Scripture reading and the parish prayer.

An update concerning reconfiguration focused on the status of the transportation ministry. To date, six people have identified their need for a ride; two of whom are from Squantum. We need to organize this information including people with physical disabilities and then solicit people willing to drive. Perhaps we will list this information in our church bulletin and/or speak at the masses.

The fall listening session sponsored by the Parish Pastoral Council could be held  in the Fall. We will possibly target October 5th but need to check on other activities within the Parish that same night. More to come.

Regarding Adult Formation/Education, we will be having an evening of discussion on May 29th of the book entitled The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Regarding future films, a list of suggestions was given to the group: Dead Man Walking, Lillies of the Field, Entertaining Angels, The Fourth Wise Man, Song of Bernadette, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor  Dreamcoat. We talked about keeping it on a Wednesday and we want to avoid  it on Sodality night.

Regarding the New Beginnings series we are thinking of sometime in the Fall.  The Little Rock Scripture Series should start in the Fall as well. We may also do it in conjunction with St. Ann’s parish.

We discussed the use of our convent and there is a great deal of speculation but no decisions have been made. One decision regarding school use is pretty clear because the heating is not zoned appropriately, nor is it handicapped accessible. It also does not have a sprinkler system.

During the weekend of October 1 and 2 the Glastonbury Abbey Bookstore will occur here at Sacred Heart.

Two priests that have worked or lived in Quincy were ordained  to the priesthood on May 21st. Father David Shoemaker will begin his ministry at St. Catherine of Siena parish in Norwood. Father David Marcham will begin his ministry in St. Mary Parish in Franklin.

The CAP program requires a facilitator to participate in a two day training program. Angela Marre expressed an interest as well as Rose Mary Feeney. We have had many people attend the first program but this needs to be done on an annual basis for new people to the different ministries or positions within the school or parish involving the youth.

The Archbishop directed all parishes to hold a forty hour prayer service and vigil since it is the Year of the Eucharist. Our vigil will occur from September 29th through October 1st.

A suggestion was made to invite Frank Connell, Youth Ministry, at St. Ann’s to speak at our Sunday masses. Also, Kathleen Haley, Catholic chaplain at the Quincy Medical, will also be invited to speak at even a few of the masses. Frank Connell is also speaking to the 8th grade students at Sacred Heart School on June 6th which is their day of retreat.

We need to review how many members are needed for the vacancies on Parish Pastoral Council. Some people may stay for a second term. We will place information including a description of the role and responsibility of a Parish Pastoral Council member. We will invite people to talk to Father O’Brien if they have an interest. Our first determination will be to identify how many openings will exist.

The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2005.

Those present at this meeting were: Rosemary Kubera, Rose Mary Feeney, Peter Jae, George Clisham, Howard Lotis, Norma Murphy, Deb Riordan, Mike Marcinkus, Margaret Kinsella, Maureen Conway, Deacon Salenius and Father O’Brien.
