Parish Pastoral Council

January 2006 Meeting Minutes

Minutes from the meeting held on January 24, 2006.

The meeting began with a Scripture reading and the parish prayer.

We discussed the wonderful experiences that occurred during the Christmas season and how truly grateful and appreciative we are for the people that lead these efforts. We are most grateful to Father O’Brien for his leadership but also grateful to so many others for their efforts. The church looked so beautiful and the services were outstanding. The music ministry is superb. We were gratified at the outpouring of gifts that went to My Brother’s Keeper.

Christmas Revels in Cambridge was a delightful event. The Festival of Lights is always well attended and very much appreciated.

An update on work being done on our church mission statement was given. Several new documents were written and submitted to our chairperson. She will put together a package of samples from other parishes gathered by Ilene Squires and include the additions. They will be given out to all PPC members at our next meeting in February.

An event called Lunar New Year was held at Sacred Heart School and enjoyed by many people. This was sponsored by the PTO and they hope to expand publicity of it next year.

Father O’Brien discussed a letter of agreement received by the Archdiocese which clarified the arrangement between Sacred Heart Church and Star of the Sea. Two main points were the Sunday mass to be held at Star of the Sea and the costs associated with the building maintenance. There will continue to be one Sunday mass and all costs associated with the maintenance of the building will be the responsibility of the Archdiocese.

An update concerning adult formation/education revealed continued interest in the showing of films and the book discussion group. The book for discussion on January 28 will be My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. A list of films was circulated asking for opinions of next offerings.

A Virtus training program for our parish will occur on Tuesday, March 7th at 7:00 PM. Sister Mary Joan Lofgren will do this training which focuses on the protection of children. There will be many offerings for those who have not attended.

The re-accreditation of Sacred Heart School will be published in our February church bulletin.

The next Parish Pastoral Council meeting will be on February 28th at 7:30 PM.

Those in attendance this evening were Father O’Brien, Rosemary Kubera, Debbi Riordan, John Princiotto, Norma Murphy, Mary Beth O’Sullivan, Kevin Coughlin, Deacon Salenius, Margaret Kinsella, Judy O’Toole, Rose Mary Feeney and Howard Lotis.
