Parish Pastoral Council

April 2007 Meeting Minutes

Minutes from the meeting held on April 24, 2007

The meeting began with a Scripture reading and the Parish Prayer. Minutes from March 27,2007 were accepted.

Update from the Youth Ministry Steering Committee
The committee decided to focus on youth in the sixth to the eighth grades in the parish and in the school. Father O’Brien and Norma Murphy will meet with small groups to establish personal contacts and build relationships. They plan to meet with religious education teachers and teachers in the school to obtain input. They plan to ask Steve Colella for the “wind-up” again and put in a call for the “pitch” in October.

Dan Ladik is putting together a data base of those who have an interest in youth ministry and people with particular skills. He mentioned communicating with the youth on the computer. Potential problems were mentioned with MySpace.

St. Francis of Assisi in Braintree is a few months ahead of us in youth ministry process so contact will be made with this group. The youth ministry steering committee will meet May 15 at 7:30.

Update Community Events
Joan Matthews presented the group with a list of options (dates and special events) at the Brockton Rox Baseball game. The most expensive tickets are box seats at $8.  Sunday at 5 PM is “fun day” with the opportunity for children to go out on the field. It was decided that 50 tickets will be purchased. Joan will contact Father O’Brien about ticket availability.

Update on Liturgy Committee
A process is in place to insert information in the bulletin on 4th Sunday of the month.  The first insert will address… Who does liturgy? What is our role?

Father O’Brien noted that the Easter Triduum was prayerful and good. There was an Easter bunny after the 9 AM and before the 10:30 AM Mass who left Easter eggs around which delighted the children.

Social Justice Conference at Boston College High School was cancelled and will be rescheduled for the fall.

There will be 5 openings next year for the Pastoral Council. Start thinking now about possible candidates.

Other issues:
Father O’Brien is participating in a pilot project of the archdiocese which is concerned with a review of ministry.

The religious education group went to Cradles and Crayons which was a positive experience.

The meeting closed with a prayer.

Those in attendance were: Norma Murphy, Judy O’Toole, Joan Matthews, Howard Lotis, Carol DeSouza, Martin Mulvey, Mary Beth O’Sullivan, Father John O’Brien, Marjory O’Day.

The next Parish Council meeting will be held on May 22, 2007 at 7:30 PM at the rectory.

Respectfully submitted by Mary Beth O’Sullivan
